2022년 5월 초순경 우크라이나 전쟁이 시작하고 3개월에 채 되지 않았을 무렵 삶의 다음 스탭에 대한 깊은 고민을 안고 있던 저는 하나님의 인도하심으로 폴란드를 지나 우크라이나 키이브까지 다녀왔던 적이 있습니다.
동구권에서 서방의 경제적 혜택을 가장 많이 받고 있는 바르샤바와 그리고 동쪽에 우크라이나와 국경을 마주 하고 있는 작은도시 프쉬므셀에서 각각 며칠씩 머물며 전쟁난민 센터를 찾아가 봉사활동에 참여했고, 마침내 그곳에서 기차를 타고 14시간을 달려 전쟁 중인 우크라이나의 수도 키이브까지 다녀왔었습니다.
기차가 출발하는 순간부터 소총을 맨 군인들이 들어와 모든 탑승객들의 신분증을 확인하며 긴장감을 고조 시키는 것과는 달리 기차가 달리는 내내 너무 평화롭게만 보이던 그 땅, 파란 하늘과 노란 유채밭이 그들의 깃발을 그려내던 정경이 잊혀지지 않습니다. 많은 일들이 있었고, 그 여행의 끝에서 하나님께서는 Deep and Wide를 시작하게 하셨습니다.
2년이 조금 지난 지금 저는 다시 한 번 우크라이나를 마음에 품고 폴란드 여정에 오를 준비를 하고 있습니다. 이번에는 Mission Incubators의 이세영 목사님과 함께 Better Globe Makers의 Peace Makers 프로젝트로 준비하여 폴란드 바르샤바로 갑니다.
오는 7월 16일부터 23일까지 현장에서 국제봉사에 참여하는 이번 팀은 크리스천 청소년들이 모인 국제봉사단으로 청소년의 때에 하나님이 지으신 세상 속 아픔의 자리에서 섬기는 국제기관들을 방문하고 봉사활동에 참여하게 함으로 삶의 의미를 다시 바라보게 하고자 하는 의미를 가지고 있습니다. 모든 참가자는 Kingdom Makers라는 이름으로 진행하고 있는 사전 온라인 교육에 참여하여 믿음 안에서 세상에 맞서 살아내고 있는 선배들의 다양한 이야기를 듣고 배우고 있으며, 이를 통해 이들이 장성하여서도 하나님께서 맡겨주신 자리에서 세상에 대한 책임의식을 가지고 가치있는 도전을 시도하는 선교적인 크리스천으로 살아가고자 마음을 다지고 있습니다.
이번 Peace Makers 팀은 미국 내 CA, VA, MA, RI, 캐나다 등에서 13명 청소년들이 자원하였고 저를 포함한 4명의 인솔자 등 총 17명이 한 팀을 이루었고 이중 7명은 MK 또는 PK 로 구성되어 있습니다. Peace Makers 팀은 국제기관, 교회, 선교사 등이 운영하는 시설과 연계하여 어린이 사역, 영어 클레스, 음악 콘서트 등의 봉사활동을 진행할 예정이며 아우슈비츠 유대인 강제 수용소와 바르샤바 국립 박물관 등 폴란드 내 다양한 교육/문화 시설을 방문해 세계적 견문을 넓히게 될 것입니다.
더불어 Better Globe Makers의 모든 사역은 국제봉사활동을 포함한 리서치 프로젝트로 진행하게 됩니다. 참가 학생들은 자신들이 연구하고 싶은 주제를 미래 정하여 멘토님의 도움으로 리서치를 시작하였고, 여행 기간 중에 이를 확장하여 발표를 하게 됩니다. Deep and Wide Foundation과 Mission Incubators는 학생들의 봉사와 국제평화에 도움이 되는 리서치에 대한 수행을 평가하여 참가들에게 미국 대통령 봉사상을 수여할 예정입니다.
이번 Peace Makers를 준비하며 기도를 부탁드립니다.
각자의 지역에서 청소년들이 비행기를 타고 와서 처음 만나 함께 일정을 보내야 합니다. 그리스도 안에서 넓은 마음으로 하나되어 한 팀을 이루게 하시고 서로를 이해하고 보둠어 섬기는 형제 자매 되게 하소서.
해외에서 보내는 긴 여정동안 한 사람도 안전사고 없이 평강 가운데 섬김과 배움의 시간을 보내게 하소서.
우리의 발걸음이 아픔을 겪는 이들에게 치유의 손길이 되게 하시고, 분쟁이 넘치는 세상 속에 평화의 복된 소식을 전하는 걸음 되게 하소서.
함께 참여하는 13명의 청소년들이 하나님 안에서 의미있는 꿈을 발견하게 하시고, 선교적 삶을 살아냄으로 복된 미래를 여는 하나님 나라의 역꾼으로 성장하게 하소서.
재정적으로 돕는 손길을 붙여 우리의 부족함을 채워주시고, 중보기도자들을 많이 붙여 주셔서 여정동안 기도로 힘이 공급되게 하소서.
이 땅 위에 전쟁들이 하루 빨리 종식되게 하시고 평강의 왕으로 오신 예수님 안에 평화롭고 안전한 세상이 열리게 하소서.
국제평화봉사활동을 떠나지만 주님 주신 마음에 순종하여 난 길이니 주님만 큰 영광 받으소서.

In early May 2022, just a few months into the Ukraine war, I found myself deeply contemplating the next steps in my life. With God's guidance, I embarked on a journey from Poland to Kyiv, Ukraine.
I spent several days in Warsaw, a city reaping the economic benefits of Western influence, and Przemyśl, a small town bordering Ukraine. During my stay, I volunteered at refugee centers, assisting those affected by the war. Eventually, I boarded a train that took me on a 14-hour journey into the heart of the conflict, the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
From the moment the train departed, armed soldiers heightened the tension by checking the IDs of all passengers. Yet, as the train sped through the countryside, the landscape was remarkably peaceful. The blue skies and fields of yellow rapeseed painted a serene picture, reminiscent of the Ukrainian flag. Many events unfolded, and at the journey's end, God led me to establish Deep and Wide.
Now, over two years later, I'm once again preparing to return to Poland, carrying Ukraine in my heart. This time, I'm joining forces with Pastor Seyoung Lee from Mission Incubators and the Peace Makers project of Better Globe Makers. Our destination is Warsaw, Poland, from July 16th to 23rd.
This mission team, comprised of Christian youth, will engage in international service, visiting organizations that serve those in pain and participating in various volunteer activities. The aim is to help these young people rediscover life's meaning through service. As part of the preparation, all participants are engaged in online training under the name Kingdom Makers, where they learn from the experiences of mentors who live out their faith in the world. This training equips them to face the world responsibly and strive to be missional Christians.
Our Peace Makers team consists of 17 members, including 13 youth volunteers from CA, VA, MA, RI, and Canada, and four leaders, including myself. Among the youth, seven are MKs (Missionary Kids) or PKs (Pastors' Kids). We will conduct various activities such as children's ministry, English classes, and music concerts in collaboration with international organizations, churches, and missionaries. Additionally, we will visit educational sites in Poland, including the Auschwitz concentration camp and the National Museum in Warsaw, to broaden our horizons.
Furthermore, all activities under Better Globe Makers will include research projects. Each student will choose a topic to research with the help of a mentor, culminating in a presentation. Deep and Wide Foundation and Mission Incubators will evaluate these projects, and participants will be awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for their contributions to service and international peace.
As we prepare for Peace Makers, I ask for your prayers:
Unity and Understanding: May the youth, who will meet for the first time after arriving from different regions, form a unified team in Christ, understanding and serving each other as brothers and sisters.
Safety and Peace: Grant safety throughout our long journey abroad, allowing us to serve and learn in peace.
Healing and Peace: May our steps bring healing to those in pain and spread the message of peace in a conflict-ridden world.
Meaningful Dreams: Help the 13 participating youth discover meaningful dreams in God and grow as kingdom builders, leading blessed futures.
Financial Support and Prayer: Provide financial support and intercessors to meet our needs and strengthen us through prayer during our journey.
End of Wars: May wars on this earth come to an end soon, opening a peaceful and safe world in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.
Although we are embarking on an international peace mission, it is a journey undertaken in obedience to the Lord's call. To Him alone be all the glory.
